Driving improvement even further

22nd September 2023

I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits as we hit the end of the third week of term. The summer holidays are a distant memory and I know everyone has ramped up ready for the academic year, in fact, this week has seen the start of our open evenings ready for our 2024/25 cohorts joining us. I was lucky enough to be in Kings College this week, where our current pupils were proudly sharing their school experience with potential new pupils.

This week saw the start of our governor training programme across the trust, with colleagues from our schools joining us to hear from the National Governance Association who we partner with to share expertise and gain knowledge and skills. My sincere thanks to all of our volunteer governors and trustees who work tirelessly for our schools and trust. Your dedication, support and challenge are a real asset to our young people.

As Director of Education, one of my jobs is to identify and lead on our educational priorities across the trust. This year we were, quite rightly, very proud of the achievements of all our learners who surpassed national averages at all key stages. Whilst this is an unbelievable achievement as a group of schools, it is by no means a reason to sit back!

This year we will drive improvement even further across our schools with the following areas of focus:

  • Outcome and progress at Key Stage 5
  • Outcome and progress in English at Key Stage 4
  • Driving up attendance in all our schools, particularly with pupils from vulnerable groups
  • Focus on improving outcomes and progress for our pupils in vulnerable groups

As many of you are aware, our school leaders, governing bodies and trustees have joined us in our quest to improve provision and support for our SEND pupils. We have engaged at a national level to ensure our voice is heard and to offer our suggestions for support and change. My thanks to parents, pupils, staff and governors who have responded to the recent questionnaire from Ofsted regarding SEND provision across Surrey.

At Learning Partners, our commitment to innovation in education is stronger than ever. Our dedicated staff have continued to engage in ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of educational practices. This week we welcomed almost 50 new teachers to the trust at an induction event hosted by George Abbot school where they were introduced to the Learning Partners pedagogy model. A big welcome to you all!

We have kick started the year celebrating our relationship with Guildford Book festival with a visit from Rob Bidulph. Author visits are a great opportunity for our learners to engage with books and find inspiration about reading and writing. Keep an eye on our social media channel s for more visiting authors.

Wishing you all an exciting term ahead.
