Welcome to the Athena Schools Trust

We are a collaborative Multi Academy Trust (MAT) built on partnership and thriving on local schools working together. Our aim is to offer the best schools to our communities, delivering outstanding education to every child.

Collaboration is key to delivering the best education – academic, physical and emotional – for every child, whatever their individual needs, across all ages. Athena was set up by local schools to develop a MAT that sets high aspirations and goals for every school in the partnership.

We believe in driving up educational standards and raising targets through collaborative school-to-school support. Teachers need more time to teach. We aim to allow schools to focus on delivering excellent education by centralising services to achieve operational efficiencies.

Our MAT is not about direction from the top, but an all-inclusive approach to school improvement, delivering strong outcomes for all our young people and understanding the communities in which we operate.

Collaborative School Improvement Strategy

Athena Schools Trust and GEP Academies

We've launched an exciting initiative in September 2019; our new Collaborative School Improvement Strategy.

Working together with GEP (Guildford Education Partnership) is the right thing to do. We are both local, cross phase trusts that wish to collaborate not compete.

We are ambitious for our pupils and for our staff and we believe in school to school and peer to peer support. We believe that all our schools are unique but that alignment of curriculum and systems where appropriate can be a major benefit to the educational offer and reduce teacher workload.

Athena’s five and GEP’s seven schools will combine their school improvement and development resources to help everyone in both trusts. Our objective is to enable teachers and leaders to be challenged and supported to work together to provide an even richer educational offer than an individual school or small trust is able to provide alone. The George Abbot Teaching School and SCITT will be important vehicles to provide capacity for improvement in all our schools.

Our Collaborative School Improvement Strategy will have four phases; diagnostic, planning, delivery and review. We have brought together a great team to support school leaders and teachers to identify priorities and build programmes to focus on improvement in our schools.
